Laurie King

For six years, painter Laurie King divided her time between Chicago and Las Vegas, giving her a bipolar view of nature that shows in her oil on canvas landscapes and still life paintings. These present a rich – almost humid – portrayal of the desert, which came to fascinate the Michigan native. Gaia’s debut artist, Laurie returned to Michigan in July. Devi Barnard

Devi BarnardIn her 20 years of photographing nature all over the world, Devi’s patience and deep connection with nature have allowed her to capture birds, butterflies, flowers and other wild subjects in intimate detail. Although photography started as a hobby for Devi, she began showing her work last year in small galleries in Switzerland, where she has lived for part of each year since 2002. Her book, “L’Amour des Fleurs,” is a study in being present by waiting for just the right moment to click the shutter.

“There is so much beauty in the world, I wanted to find a way to share the special moments I have been privileged to see. And I can do that with my photos,” Devi said.

Flowers of the Sea by Bonnie Kelso

Flowers of the Sea Exhibition by Bonnie KelsoThrough October 2009, Gaia featured “Flowers of the Sea,” an exhibition of paintings by Bonnie Kelso. No artist or collection could be more perfect for Gaia. An avid hiker, climber and diver, Bonnie’s work is heavily influenced by nature. “Flowers of the Sea” explored the liminal spaces where water, animal and desert converge. A percentage of sales from Bonnie’s work went towards environmental conservation programs in Nevada. On Bonnie’s behalf, Gaia also donated half its front window display space to the local Tortoise Group for their advertising.
